Before 6:00 PM, huh?
I was just thinking about Leap Day and how it is an "extra" day. If it is indeed "extra" shouldn't it be some international holiday where we all get to do whatever we want that day? Seems like we should not have to work? Should have thought of this before 6:00 PM, huh?

Grumpy soon-to-be middle-aged man
I went and got a much overdue haircut tonight at Floyd's. The new guy I go to was off tonight, so I tried a new gal as I could not wait another minute.
The new gal was chatty. The new gal was perky. The new gal loved small talk.
I am not chatty. I am the opposite of perky. I despise small talk. These dislikes are even stronger on Monday evenings after a long day at work.
You can imagine how this made for an uncomfortable haircut for us both. When did I become such a grumpy soon-to-be middle-aged man? I need to find my inner perky. Well, maybe not perky but at least my inner tolerable.

Not a part of the hype
I did not watch the Academy Awards last night rather opting (well not really opting as there was little choice) to instead spend it on the train from Glenwood Springs to Denver. Based on the Facebook updates, USA Today and the news this morning, it appears I did not miss much. It seems the consensus was that even though Billy Crystal did an okay job it was fairly boring. I think this tends to happen when most of the nominees are art house versus mainstream films that most people had not seen like The Artist.
I think I have grown tired of award season. It just becomes one endless pat on the back for the Hollywood elite and a bit self serving. You can only get so excited for people making millions winning yet another award. This is not all of them and I love to see the underdog or newbie win as much as the next gay (no that is not a typo) but even that gets washed away in all the gold, glitter and glam.
There just seems to be too many real problems in this world to be worrying about this crap. I think I would feel better if the women of the red carpet picked young, unknown designers to promote. Or if the evening had a charitable element where a portion of the advertising went to help fund arts in public schools or school meals for more kids. Anything. I just get tired of it just being an evening of "what are you wearing" and "who do you want to win".
Now had I been home I am sure I would have watched it and complained about it being long and boring...so part of me is glad I missed it. It felt good to not be a part of the hype.

Spidellapalooza comes to a close
Well, the train ride back to Denver hit a few snags. We left 90 minutes late. We got stuck for 2 hours in Granby due to a broken track. However it was still a blast and a fun way to travel.
Day 2 Spidellapalooza
The second day of Spidellapalooza was a blast. We started with a great homemade waffle breakfast, followed by the introduction of the TV show Modern Family to the Stubbendicks. The Spidells took us to the Glenwood Caverns, which was a blast. There we took a gondola and saw a full moon. We raced down the mountain on an alpine slide. We had lunch with amazing views. We went hundreds of feet into the earth for cave tours led by a man with the longest comb over any of us had ever seen. We watched 4D movies. We played a kick ass game of lazed tag. We ended the Glenwood Caverns with a van ride down the mountain with the most fertile grandpa alive. We ate dinner at Riviera Supper Club where the food was amazing but the staff was unfriendly. We went to a vaudeville show where Steve was pulled on stage. We saw rapping dogs and plunger lollipops. We heard old time tunes and movie catchphrases.
Most of all we laughed and laughed and laughed. It was a great day.

The Messages
I had a really cool dream last night that people all over the world starting receiving text messages on their phones warning them of upcoming danger. The texts were untraceable and report no sending phone number. The texts have messages like "do not get on the train today" or "do not drive on Main Street tomorrow". Soon people who follow the advice of the texts realize these messages saved their lives when they see a train derailment of the news or hear of an accident on Main Street.
People begin to panic questioning why only some people received the text messages scheduled on the train and not everyone. Who is sending these messages and how? Is it divine intervention of some sorts? Aliens? A hoax? People become crazed waiting for messages on their cells.
I woke up before there was any resolution but I think this would make a kick ass movie called The Messages or something.
