Zoe hates loud noises. She especially hates thunder and fireworks. We have dealt with this for the past 8 years and Dale and I usually stay home on July 4th to help keep her calm and sane.
Interestingly enough Lucy is also afraid of loud noises like thunder. We are not sure if she was already this way or is mimicking Zoe's behavior, but we now have two dogs, who are panic attack prone when it comes to large storms and firework displays.
Since our town and most of the nearby towns cancelled their firework displays, plus most neighbors felt it was unsafe to do their own backyard firework displays in a hot, dry state already plagued by wildfires - last night was a breeze for Zoe and Lucy.
They slept normal and did not hear one firecracker. We even slept with the window open, which is something we typically never get to do on July 4th. I think the mid-week holiday helped too as most people had to work the next day.
I am glad the dogs (and as a result - Dale and I) were able to have a stress free holiday.
